With the weather being colder, it seems like all I make is soup, but I love soup! I made a great Venison-Vegetable soup the other night after everyone came in from snowmobiling...I just threw it together, So I hope you enjoy!
I started with 1 lb of venison and browned it.
Then added onion, carrots (still from my garden, folks!) and celery and added it to the pot with the venison.
I then added a jar of Stewed Tomatoes that I canned this fall. You could add a couple of cans of diced or stewed tomatoes, whichever you would like!
Next I added some beef broth, about 2 cups. and 2 cups of water. Make sure your beef broth is condensed. For extra flavor, I cheated and added some beefy-onion soup mix, as I wanted it to be extra "beefy" if you know what I mean!! haha.
Add a little Worcestershire sauce, (a few drops will do) and really anything else you like in your soup! I added peas I had frozen from my garden, corn I had frozen, and some thyme and parsely! (Don't forget the salt and pepper!)
I baked a loaf of bread in my bread machine to go with it, and voila! Supper! How easy is that?

I was lucky enough to receive this wonderful salt from my sister, Kevalyn, for Christmas.
I implore you to run not walk to get some of this salt!

Kevy's Famous Oven Fries:
2 Large Potatoes
2 Tbsp Olive Oil
Fleur de Sel ( adjust amounts to your servings as needed)
Cut potatoes into sticks:
Drop in cold water.
Drain and rinse well. Return to pot and cover with cold water, about 1 1/2 inches. Add 1 tsp. kosher salt. Partially cover the pot, and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce to a calm boil and boil for 3 minutes. Gently drain, and spread on paper towels to dry. (Can sit up to an hour)
Heat oven to 450. Put baking sheet in oven. Put potatoes in bowl, and add olive oil, toss to coat. (carefully) Remove hot sheet from oven, arrange potatoes at least 1/2 inch between sticks. Roast, turning fries over and rotate sheet after 15 minutes. Then every 6-8 minutes until brown and crisp.-30 min total.
Then the best part...Sprinkle with the Fleur de Sel! These fries are wonderful!!! I highly recommend you try them!
I made them with some baked chicken and popped open a jar of my garden green beans, and a really good, quick meal was ready in no time!
I love to decorate my house, It is one of my favorite things! I'm always changing it up not with new things usually, but move an accessory here, and change it up over there. My Mother-in-law, Leslie, is an interior decorator and I have to say, she is about the best I have ever seen! I have never seen such a beautiful house as hers! Here is a few pics of her holiday decorating at her house on xmas:

And this is only a part of one room! I wish I had one ounce of her talent! For almost 20 years, I have asked her to come and decorate my house, but she always says I do such a good job on my own she doesn't have to....NOT TRUE! But I try. Almost everything I have in my home is second hand or something bought at a thrift store...I love that fact! I think it's good to start with some good basics like a new dining room table, furniture, and such and then work from there... One thing I did learn from my mother in law is how much just a new throw pillow will make all the difference in the world! She's right. Something so simple adds just the right "punch."
I did however, buy something new this week. I took my daughter on a girls shopping/hotel getaway the day after Christmas and I found a comforter set at TJ MAXX that I'm in love with! I usually do not like comforter sets, in fact, I hated them. The patterns are so manufactured and just plain weird. Unless, of course, you buy from Pottery Barn! I do like some of their sets. The last comforter I bought was actually a duvet, and it was from Pottery Barn. I still really like it, but the fabric isn't soft, it's kind of like canvas! It didn't matter how much I washed it, it was almost abrasive! Ouch! It also weighed about 25 lbs after putting our down comforter in it, and felt like a weight was on us each night...but hey! It looked fab! That's all that matters, right? Well, I found the perfect set for us...it's WHITE. Never thought I would go there, but I thought, hey! All our sheets will go with it, I can change seasons with different throw pillows, and lamp shades, and the best part? It is so soft! It's perfect! And, at least if need be...there is always bleach! Right?
Here it is:
I love how there is a pattern in it to give it some texture, but it's subtle. And I loved how the rosette
pattern extends into the shams and throw pillows. My problem of the day, however, turned out to be what color to put with it. I have many throws of different colors, but thought this one would be great since our walls are grey. I love red and grey together, and I had also already had the lamp shades, so it was just trying to find the right throw pillow to tie it all together...
When we got home, I still didn't have the pillow..so I went to our Wal-mart, and staring right at me was the red rosette pillow! I couldn't believe my luck! It was meant to be! A new bedroom was born....:)
The other two new things I picked up were the lamps. I had nice lamps that I really liked in the bedroom (now have moved to lower level family room) but they were dark wood, and I really didn't think they belonged in this new scheme...so while we were at target searching for throw pillows, I do what I always do when I'm at Target...look at the end caps for clearance items. Sure enough, there were the perfect lamps for my room (two of them also!) on clearance! The reason I absolutely love these lamps is the fact that the bottom of them is open. Anything can go inside the lamps~ Flowers, twigs (which I have done) or in the Fall, leaves! and how about loves notes on Valentines? The options are endless!
